Your moving-into-storage checklist

Plan the route and the unit layout before loading your vehicle. A few measurements and an organized inventory can save repeat trips and make later visits easier.

Before you reserve

List what you will store, measure bulky pieces and estimate how many boxes you need. Check the available unit dimensions and the features on its listing. Confirm doorway, elevator and ceiling clearance if these affect your items.

Read the monthly rate, promotion terms and all disclosed charges. Confirm what documents, lock, coverage or other requirements apply to your rental, and ask about prohibited items and permitted uses before packing.

Before moving day

Check the facility address and published office and gate hours. Confirm the holiday schedule if relevant. Ask where to unload, how to reach the selected unit and whether the route has stairs or uses an elevator.

Pack dry belongings in suitable containers, protect furniture surfaces and label boxes on more than one side. Keep an inventory that identifies where important items will be placed. Separate items you need soon so they can go near the front.

When you load the unit

Place stable, heavier items low and keep stacks within safe limits for the containers and their contents. Do not rely on fragile items to support other boxes. Follow the facility’s rules and manufacturer handling instructions.

Leave a clear aisle if you will return for items. Keep labels visible, make a simple layout sketch and update your inventory as you load. Check that the door closes and locks freely without pushing against your belongings.

After move-in

Keep your rental documents and contact details accessible. Review billing dates and promotion end dates, and confirm the process for future access or move-out with the team. Recheck your layout after the first visit if reaching items takes more unpacking than expected.
